Yesterday, Tourouvre-au-Perche, a small town in northern France, opened what is likely the first road paved in solar panels in the world, the Guardian reported.

A small town in northern France has opened approximately 1km of road covered in solar panels. The panels are coated with a special silicone film to help protect it against truck traffic. This $5.2m roadway will be monitored to determine its economic feasibility during it’s lifespan.

The panels are coated in a special silicon film that helps protect them from the weight of trucks.
