Canada’s first Connected Vehicle Test Bed for Wireless Connected Vehicle Technology Test Project ongoing in Alberta and British Columbia.

The project provides organizations the ability to test current and emerging connected vehicles systems in the real world.

With a goal of fostering innovation in safety and efficiency, data collected from researchers and industry will one day develop into new software applications and products such as real time active traffic management on busy roadways and freight security.

The ACTIVE project (Alberta Cooperative Transportation Infrastructure and Vehicular Environment) test sections are located Alberta west Edmonton along the Anthony Henday, Whitemud Drive, and 23 Avenue.

In British Columbia, the AURORA Project (Automotive Test Bed for Reconfigurable and Optimized Radio Access) is located within and near to the University of British Columbia campus.

Information signs were installed on the Anthony Henday in April 2017 to notify the travelling public of the project.

The project began in 2014 between the Universities of Alberta and British Columbia, City of Edmonton, Alberta Transportation, and Transport Canada.
